The Renesas RA8P1 32-bit microcontroller pushes the envelope for edge AI MCUs. The device, designed to bring advanced performance and AI acceleration to edge IoT products, combines a 1 GHz Arm Cortex-M85 core, a neural processing unit (NPU) for real-time voice and vision tasks, and up to 1 MB of embedded MRAM, a first for an MCU in its class.

The RA8P1 is available in both single and dual-core configurations, with the latter adding a 250 MHz Cortex-M33 core, enhancing its versatility for real-time workloads. Manufactured on TSMC's power-efficient 22nm ultra-low leakage (ULL) process node, the RA8P1 delivers exceptional performance, boasting over 7,300 CoreMarks, while maintaining the low power consumption critical for edge devices. Initial production quantities of RA8P1 are now available in both single- and dual-core variants, production orders start at $16.61 per unit in 1,000-unit quantities.
