Apple A18 Pro SoC Digital Floorplan Analysis
Uncover the details: The iPhone 16 Pro's A18 Pro chip, featuring refined CPU/GPU cores and expanded cache for potential AI advancements, is analyzed in-depth by TechInsights.
The A18 Pro was found inside the iPhone 16 Pro smartphone. The A18 Pro reuses selected functional blocks and the process node seen in the Apple M4 SoC. The processor, only 3% smallers vs the A17 Pro, features two high-performance CPUs (P-cores), four high-efficiency CPUs (E-cores), six GPU cores, four LPDDR5X interfaces, and a large L3 cache. We continue to observe an “8 core count” as in the A17 Pro, but these A18 Pro NPU cores are roughly 10% smaller yet the shared logic and cache regions appear to be 15% larger. Could more cache in the NPU cluster enable faster and more sophisticated AI functionality for Apple devices? This analysis includes structural analysis, critical dimensions, and layout analysis of digital blocks, as well as die cost analysis.
