Huawei Mate XT: Unveiling the World's First Trifold, Triple-Screen Foldable Smartphone

Huawei Mate XT

Huawei has introduced the Mate XT, the world’s first trifold, triple-screen foldable smartphone, marking a breakthrough in mobile technology. The Mate XT's unique design incorporates two hinges, one folding inward and the other outward, allowing the device to create a Z-shaped fold. In its compact form, it operates as a 6.4-inch OLED smartphone, but when fully unfolded, it reveals a massive 10.2-inch OLED display with a 2232 x 3184 resolution and a 16:11 aspect ratio, larger than any current foldable, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Honor Magic V3. The device also offers a 7.9-inch display option when partially unfolded, providing even more versatility for multitasking or media viewing.

The Mate XT's display, sourced from BOE, a leader in OLED screen technology, is protected by ultra-thin glass, enhancing durability without sacrificing design. Even with its complex trifold mechanism, the device remains slim at 12.8mm when folded. Powering the Mate XT is a 5600mAh battery, supporting 66W wired and 50W wireless fast charging, ensuring the large display doesn’t compromise battery life.

While Huawei hasn't officially confirmed the chipset, the Mate XT is expected to use the Kirin 9010 5G processor, likely delivering high performance and AI capabilities. Additionally, the device includes satellite communication, offering improved connectivity in remote areas—a feature Huawei has been incorporating in its recent flagships.

The camera system is equally impressive, featuring a 50MP main camera with a variable aperture, a 12MP ultrawide lens, a 12MP 5.5x periscope telephoto, and an 8MP front-facing camera. The device includes premium features like Bluetooth 5.2, an IR blaster, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and it runs on Huawei’s Harmony OS.

The Mate XT comes in multiple configurations, starting at 19999 yuan (~$2809) for the 16GB RAM/256GB storage model and going up to 23999 yuan (~$3371) for the 1TB storage variant. Each device purchase includes a bundle of accessories, such as a kickstand case, FreeBuds 5 earbuds, a 66W charger, and an 88W car charger. Huawei also offers an optional foldable split keyboard, further expanding the Mate XT’s use cases as a productivity tool.

Currently available only in China, the Mate XT has already garnered significant interest with millions of pre-orders. While a global release has not been confirmed, Huawei’s innovative design could easily turn the Mate XT into a global success, setting a new benchmark for foldable smartphones.
