Insight: Q1 2024 Smart Speaker Results- A sluggish start but generative AI fueled growth is on the horizon

Global smart speaker and display shipments reached 29 million units in Q1 2024, a year-over-year (YoY) drop of 7 percent. While global economic uncertainty is a contributing factor to lackluster sales, the market is reaching a level of maturity in the US and China as well as parts of Western Europe and household penetration growth rates have slowed considerably. Despite this, TechInsights is optimistic that the next wave of digital assistants, powered by generative AI, to fuel a return to growth in sales of smart speakers and displays in 2025.
