Except for the Google Tensor G3 Application processor, the new Google Pixel 8 Pro is designed with the same Samsung Baseband and RF Transceiver chips, and uses the same Micron LPDDR5 DRAM as the Google Pixel 7 Pro. We estimate a modest price increase in the larger Google Tensor G3 over that of the Google Tensor G2. We also verified the Google Tensor G3 is in partnership with Samsung Semiconductor The fluctuating memory market prices and the reuse of the Shannon Cellular design from last year helped reduce the Google Pixel 8 Pro BoM price from that of the Google Pixel 7 Pro. Even though the Google Pixel 8 Pro supports WiFi 7, which does mean a higher Connectivity total price, the smaller Goodix Fingerprint sensor subsystem costs much less than the Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor in the Galaxy S23+.
Surprisingly, the Google Pixel 8 Pro 50MP Wide-Angle camera has a higher price than the Samsung Galaxy S23+ 50MP camera. Also, the Galaxy S23+ does not have a periscope camera, whereas the Google Pixel 8 Pro 48MP Telephoto camera is a periscope form-factor design. The Google Pixel 8 Pro benefited from fluctuating memory price estimates and, with using the same RF design, specifically last year’s Shannon components, the RF reduction was significant. The Google Pixel 8 Pro has a total of four cameras – one front Ultra-Wide camera, and three rear cameras which include a 48 MP Telephoto Periscope camera. However, it is the Pixel 8 Pro’s 50MP Wide-Angle which has the highest price of over $60 for the subsystem assembly.
