Market Model: Wafer Cost and Pricing 2025 Q2

Yielded front end wafer production cost data from TechInsights' Semiconductor Manufacturing Economics has been compiled for 17 IDMs and four Foundries. The cost of production analysis is segmented by wafer size and node. In June 2025 the data source for electricity and natural gas rates has changed from EIA to Global Petroleum Prices (GPP) to provide broader coverage and more frequent updates. This change has been applied retroactively from 2020 on. This affected facilities costs for many companies in history, especially in 2022. Also note that tariffs have not been accounted for in the wafer production cost analysis within Semiconductor Manufacturing Economics. Additional analysis on profitability margins at public companies (during the first half of 2025 for most companies except Micron who has not announced yet) indicates the direction of wafer prices sold to customers.
