Insight: Camera Replacing Capacitive Fingerprint Sensors for Vehicle Entry and Engine Start Authentication

Vehicle entry and start systems are shifting to facial and iris recognition, as automakers move away from fingerprint sensors, per TechInsights data.
In the latest Advanced Entry and Start System Supply & Fitment Database, TechInsights observes an increasing number of new models featuring an external camera authenticating vehicle entry and/or an internal camera authenticating engine start. A few models have implemented capacitive fingerprint sensors, but a leading solutions provider FPC (Fingerprint Cards) has said that the automotive sector will no longer be seeking this method and move to facial and iris recognition cameras instead.
