Continental HFL110TA is the first LiDAR analyzed by TechInsights that utilized the Flash method. This allows the LiDAR to obtain distances by illuminating all measurement points simultaneously with a laser, like triggering a camera flash, without the need for laser scanning. This technology originates from the American startup Advanced Scientific Concepts (ASC), which was acquired by Continental.
In contrast to other LiDARs, HFL110 does not use a rotating mirror for laser scanning but instead employs a stationary optical element to separate light, providing the advantage of reducing the optical component. The specifications of the HFL110 released by Continental are as follows. The laser is an eye-safe infrared laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm and class 1. The device's detection range is 50 m. The scanning angle is 120 degrees horizontally and 30 degrees vertically. The resolution is 128 x 32 pixels. The scanning frame rate is 30 Hz. The Continental HFL110TA is equipped with an FPGA chip from AMD. Like the Luminar Iris and Hesai AT128, Continental also includes a self-developed 32 x 128 SPAD Array Receiver. The flash memory is supplied by Winbond.
