Qualcomm has the most design wins for the Quectel BG96 device including the MDM9206 LTE modem, Power Management, and RF Transceiver with GPS. The RF Design is based on solutions from Qorvo with two IC’s – Dual Band 3G Power Amplifier Module and Quad-Band GSM Transmit Module with Antenna Switches. Macronix provided 64 MB LPDDR2 SDRAM and 128 MB SLC NAND Flash integrated in one chip. The analyzed module had already appeared in one of TechInsights’ earlier projects. The BG96 is designed to support two antennas: one for GPS and the other for LTE. The Quectel BG96 is a module designed for Low-Power Wide-Area networks. It adheres to the LTE Cat M1/Cat NB1 standard, providing support for LTE 4G and 2G bands. Additionally, it incorporates integrated GPS functionality for accurate positioning. The allows the module to cater to a diverse range of Internet of Things (IoT) applications, such as wireless Point of Sale (POS), smart metering, asset tracking, and beyond.
