Global Game Console Forecast 2012-2028
Global game console shipments declined by -4.7% to reach 40.8 million units in 2022 due to supply chain constraints and macro economic uncertainties. However, the category is looking positive and anticipated to reach all time high in 2023, shipping 46.6 million units with 14.2% year-on-year (YoY) growth. The growth will stem from strong shipments from Sony PlayStation 5 (65% YoY growth) and continued popularity of older generation models. Sony streamlined its supply chain issues of previous couple of years. In revenue terms, the category witnessed a healthy growth (+29% in 2021, +2% in 2022, 22% in 2023) due to strong sales of higher ASP products (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch OLED) compared to other consoles (PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S and Nintendo Switch).
From 2024 though we expect pressure on prices to increase and we thus forecast a -4.6% CAGR over five-year to 2028. This report includes historical data and forecasts for game console shipments, installed base, household penetration, average price and market value by region and country from 2012 to 2028.
