Concerns about the ineffectiveness of autonomous emergency braking systems (AEB) in nighttime driving have been raised. Despite this, night vision systems have failed to generate interest in the automotive sector, which prefers using a regular front windshield camera with a distance-velocity measuring sensor, mostly radar, but now includes lidar for autonomous driving. However, one concept that uses short-wave infrared (SWIR) technology aims to provide the image recognition capability of a camera but in low-light conditions with the distance-velocity measurement capability of a lidar: TriEye SEDAR.
