Car companies are facing a daunting choice of connectivity technology. The arrival of cellular-based V2X (C-V2X) technology promises the realization of a long-held industry desire to connect cars with other cars as well as infrastructure. While 5G offers the promise of enhanced safety and infotainment, V2X holds out the prospect of collision avoidance and inter-vehicle data communications. There’s just one problem. Car companies can opt for 5G OR V2X, but not both—at least for the foreseeable future.
