Insight: Ford Universal, The Model T Moment for EVs

Ford Motor Company introduced its Universal EV Platform and Production System on August 11, 2025, calling it its next "Model T Moment" for electric vehicles.

According to its market analysis, it sees the compact to mid-size segments as the main battleground for EVs, not the large and expensive models that global OEMs initially targeted. Chinese OEMs have gained traction in the mass market, while Tesla's strategy and manufacturing processes have made the Model Y the best-selling EV worldwide. Ford aims to bring its EVs to the mass market by reflecting on how its iconic 1908 Model T became the best-selling car of its era.
