Meeting Customer PCF Requirements

The Challenge

As sustainability expectations rose across the electronics supply chain, one Integrated Device Manufacturer (IDM) found itself under increasing pressure from downstream customers to deliver standardized and transparent Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) for its devices. These requests were no longer optional; they became essential for remaining competitive in a rapidly evolving marketplace.

The IDM encountered growing challenges responding to RFPs and RFQs, many of which required not just emissions data, but detailed carbon reduction strategies and PCF methodologies. Adding to the complexity, customers expected PCFs to be aligned with or certified to ISO 14067 standards, making manual or ad hoc reporting methods insufficient.

Without a scalable and compliant solution in place, the IDM risked losing high-value contracts and falling behind competitors that could meet these evolving demands with speed and accuracy.

The Solution

To overcome these hurdles, the IDM implemented the Packaging+ Carbon Module, part of TechInsights’ EcoInsights sustainability suite. This advanced emissions tracking and reporting platform was designed specifically to help semiconductor manufacturers create, manage, and certify PCFs at scale.

With the Packaging+ Carbon Module, the IDM was able to allocate Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions directly at the product level, offering the granularity required for precise carbon accounting. The tool gave users access to a vast library of over 30,000 pre-loaded integrated circuit (IC) products, enabling rapid profiling of carbon emissions for each product in just minutes. Crucially, the module allowed the generation of ISO 14067-compliant PCF certificates, which could be exported and shared with customers to fulfill formal documentation requirements.

This automated, standards-aligned approach allowed the IDM to respond to customer demands with confidence and agility.

The Results

By integrating the Packaging+ Carbon Module into its sustainability workflow, the IDM achieved several strategic outcomes that directly impacted its competitiveness and customer relationships.

First, the company was able to successfully submit PCFs for over 250 products, helping secure a major contract win against other suppliers. The speed and accuracy of the PCF generation process gave the IDM a clear edge in fulfilling detailed emissions documentation requirements.

In addition, the IDM demonstrated its ability to respond ahead of deadlines to monthly PCF requests from high-profile customers like HPE, reinforcing trust and establishing itself as a reliable partner in carbon-conscious procurement. Across hundreds of products, the IDM was able to satisfy the demand for PCFs that were either ISO 14067-aligned or fully certified, supported by auto-generated PCF certificates from TechInsights.

Through this implementation, the IDM positioned itself not just as a compliant supplier, but as a sustainability leader capable of meeting the demands of a market increasingly driven by environmental transparency and accountability.
