COVID-19 drove unprecedented PC demand that brought the PC industry to new heights in 2021. Notebook PC shipments topped 265 million units, the highest volume seen since TechInsights began tracking notebook PC shipments in 2010. In 2022 and much of 2023, PC demand fell precipitously, and PC shipments have only recently returned to growth in the fourth quarter of 2023. Eager to repeat the success seen during COVID-19, the PC industry is entering a critical refresh cycle. Windows 10 end-of-service in late 2025 is largest commercial driver of the refresh cycle while consumer demand remains harder to pin down as macroeconomic and geopolitical tensions continue to impact consumers around the globe.
