MWC Shanghai 2023: New Connected Service Offering Trends, eSIM and 5G-Advanced

TechInsights identified new trends and technologies at MWC Shanghai 2023, a trade show that focuses on the communications industry. These include vertical integration of connectivity service capabilities, new progress in embedded SIM specifications, and new technologies from 5G-Advanced. Communication module manufacturers, SIM card vendors, and Mobile Virtual Network Operators are all promoting vertical integration in the provision of connectivity service capabilities. Representative companies include Quectel and Giesecke+Devrient. The Integration of Sensing and Communication—(ISAC) a key technology in 5G-Advanced—enables the wireless network to perform high-quality communication while also enabling the analysis of wireless signals to obtain information about target objects and the environment. It not only reduces the overall deployment costs of traditional C-V2X systems, but also expands the boundaries of an MNO's existing business.
