Huawei's CloudMatrix 384 is here—and even NVIDIA is taking notice. Discover what this means for the future of AI compute.
Huawei has officially entered the race to build the world’s most powerful AI compute infrastructure. At the recent World AI Conference in Shanghai, Huawei unveiled the CloudMatrix 384, a massive AI cluster designed to serve China’s growing demand for large-scale model training—at a time when access to NVIDIA’s high-end GPUs is restricted.
Built using 384 of Huawei’s own Ascend 910C AI processors, the CloudMatrix cluster reflects years of investment in domestic semiconductor and interconnect technology. According to Huawei, it offers the scalability needed for foundation model training and is already being deployed by leading Chinese cloud providers.
But what’s making headlines globally is who’s paying attention.
“Huawei's technology, based on our best understanding at the moment, is probably comparable to an H200. They've been moving quite fast. They've also offered this new system called Cloud Matrix, which scales up to even a larger system than our latest generation, Grace Blackwell. Huawei, as you know, is a formidable technology company. And they're not sitting still. They look for ways to compete, and they're quite formidable.” — NVIDIA CEO, Jensen Huang
Huawei's CloudMatrix 384 is more than just a technical milestone—it’s a geopolitical signal. As U.S. export restrictions continue to shape the AI supply chain, CloudMatrix gives China a domestically built system to train frontier models at scale.
While many details remain under wraps, one thing is clear: Huawei’s CloudMatrix is coming—and even NVIDIA is watching.
