Broadband World Forum (now part of Network-X) is the most important annual trade show and industry conference for the world-wide broadband equipment and services industry. It follows the Americas-focused FiberConnect conference. The end of conference season is an opportune time for an analyst update on fixed access trends, as highlighted in the shows. While the roadmap for ever-higher speed passive optical networks (PONs) remains the topic of much discussion (and controversy), there was also a focus on inside the premises, especially the roll-out of WiFi 7 and its possible complement, Fiber-to-the-Room. Operators are placing high priority on energy consumption, both for sustainability and because of energy price spikes in Europe. Their other sustainability commitments are also highlighted.
