A Recap of Samsung’s 108MP Image Sensors
In 2019, Samsung introduced the first 108MP image sensor for mobile applications – the S5KHMX with ISOCELL Plus® technology. We first confirmed its use in the rear (wide) cam of the Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro in November 2019. The S5KHMX is a 0.8 µm pixel-pitch, with a 1/1.33” optical format and a Tetracell (2×2) CFA. The Die size of the HMX was measured to be 7.9 mm x 11.0 mm (86.9 mm2) while the Active Array area is 7.3 mm x 9.7 mm (70.8 mm2).
Thereafter, Samsung introduced its second 108MP, the S5KHM1, which is also a 0.8 µm pixel-pitch, 1/1.33” optical format sensor with ISOCELL Plus® technology. The S5KHM1 was first observed in use in the Galaxy S20 Ultra (early 2020), then in the Galaxy Note20 Ultra (mid 2020)...
